Miles per gallon is still a thing: why not per litre since we buy the stuff in litres?

And many of us still talk of personal weight in stones and pounds. I will admit to finding it difficult to remember my weight in kilogrammes (never mind that the bathroom scales lie so frequently ).

I put the retention of the pint down to 1984. I find a litre of the foaming brew just the bit much for a single tankard.

Sadly, I fear that there are a number of eejits out there in the country who will think this is a great idea and that it's about time they brought this back. Personally, I still recall the Primary School delights of multiplying the likes of 4 st. 11 lb. 13 oz. by 14 - try doing that on a calculator Mr Prime Minister. Great cartoon, by the way, AuntDaisy.

You could go practice at the Oktoberfest... if they're having one this year! (Depends too on whether the Federal Republic be on the green or red list....?)

Retention of a pint isn’t a reality - as the landlord said as you visited the facilities the beer is on loan!

That does rather depend on your age....

Been there. Done that. Like Winston, I would have been far happier with pint tankards.

Not so sure this is about retaining the (British) pint measurement as pubs having to change all their (British) tankards!
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Finally cottoned on - I thought 1984 was when some new law had come in.
""E could 'a drawed me off a pint" ... "A 'alf litre ain't enough. It don't satisfy. And a 'ole litre's too much. It starts my bladder running. Let alone the price."

A further layer of confusion lurks here. Non-imperial nations don't use km/ litre, they use litres per 100km in car advertising. So big figures here are BAD where MPG has it the other way round.

I say 'non-imperial nations' rather than EC because this method of reporting derives from a world-wide standard with an associated test method to generate the figures (in either system). So Boris & Co can't lift two fingers to it if he still wants UK-made cars, few as they are, to boost our exports. (Hurrah!/ Boo! - delete as appropriate)
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
