There was an article a while back, and this is an update now that the science bods reckon they've worked out the mechanism correctly.
Google wombat cube poop to see more, including BBC news item. It doesn't perhaps pay to think too hard about the use to which such knowledge could be put - for some reason I can't get 'junk food' out of my mind...
