Interesting Mrs C and I were say just a couple of days ago that as children in different parts of the country Cheshire and Cheddar were the two widely available cheeses and that Cheshire was now less seen and Cheddar the biggest seller now.

I think I've seen some in Aldi.
The packaging might even have the Union Flag/Jack on it.

It will probably be compulsory (the flag) before long...

the local Waitrose have it in stock + a good crumbly one at that as I have been having it on a fresh baked crispy roll for lunch for last week - Warrington market always had a couple of cheese stalls with several varieties of cheshire from tangy thru to crumbly and even coloured.

It's the little things - like not measuring the sheds are big enough...
Three months since the creation of the new Irish trade border, the BBC travelled with a lorry driver.

Isn't it already in some places? To be fair when it comes to the likes of regional cheese I think perhaps there is a case for a bit of red white and blue on Aldi/Lidl products to indicate that it is British cheese(ie made in the UK from British milk), and the Red Tractor scheme logo also includes a wisp of flag. There is a certain amount of irony I think that it is easier in some respects to buy British in those two places than in the mainstream UK supermarkets, since they make much of their food in the UK using UK produce.

Going on for some time, especially to The Netherlands, accelerating this year far more..... and worse to come, by far....
Brexit has seen scores of firms relocate to the Netherlands, it's claimed, and hundreds more are in talks to follow them.

Our own government's Dept for International Trade advised companies to do just this a few weeks ago...

There are tested tactics for dealing with situations of this kind, involving worker occupations to stop removal of machinery. Were it not for the fact that we have such a restricted view of trade unionism in this country and more generally - wages and conditions at work being the extent of its purview - workforces could be being organised to do whatever might be done with the skills and productive means available in firms threatening to jump ship. 'Twas always thus. Back in the 1970s when redundancy threatened, Lucas Aerospace's shop stewards' combines linked together across the firrm and out to suppliers and clients to come up with alternative products which would serve un-met social needs while being profitable on capitalist criteria - market research having been undertaken. The result was that the TUC said words to the effect that "that's not our province, management is paid huge salaries to come up with new product, not us", and the CP - which then still carried weight at the stewards and local trades council levels - just went along with this "economistic" position, demonstrating how reformist they had become - marginalising Tony Benn, who had declared his support, in the Labour Government Cabinet at the time.

Just think of all the ideas bottled up, just waiting for someone to take the initiative for a Green/trade union/Labour coalition to consider the possibilities and come up with alternative plans! "Under Starmer?" I hear you cry?

Watching the Fred Siriex/Nadia Hussain programme and in discussion with a cheesemonger the combination of fruit cake and cheese which I used to eat, but I have not done recently and thought in visiting Tesco today I would buy the fruit cake - a bit of Genoa- fine, then a piece of Cheshire - none to be found. Will settle for Cheddar which we have in and try Waitrose for our next Click and Collect. Yes I know there are good Cornish cheeses I can get but the mention of Cheshire on this thread means I must try to get some, even if it turns out to be nothing like as hood as I remember from years ago.

It's strange, isn't it. There are plenty of evil-textured, tasteless cheeses (pre-packed) to be had but a nice bit of crumbly, ever-so-slightly salty, moist Cheshire - not a hope.

These British and Irish farmhouse cheeses have been selected by our buyers as the most flavoursome and highest-quality cheeses available. We visit the cheesemakers to select the best batches which we then mature at our site in Bermondsey until the cheese tastes its absolute best. Every cheese in your order will be hand-cut and wrapped by our team of expert cheesemongers.

Last time I visited Waitrose in Truro they had had a good selection of Cornish cheeses as well as plenty of other local products, whereas our local Waitrose is pretty weak on Suffolk local produce. Not a Cheshire-type cheese, but the Cornish Gouda struck me as especially tasty.
