AND immediately followed by the Frost/Biden 1987 interview - as revealing, as quiet, as steady.

Yes, sorry... thought I'd got(ten) away with that oversight.

Thanks to whoever put that right.

Hadn't realised Biden had pulled out of the primaries for the 1988 election because of alleged plagiarisation of a speech of Neil Kinnock - maybe at that period the Yanks were less fazed by the dog whistle 'socialist' for anyone left of Genghis Khan

I didn't post it here, did I? that a newly-elected Republican senator declared that 76 years ago his father had fought in World War Two to 'rid Europe of socialism'. At least we were spared Attlee, Bevan and all those socialists swarming in and taking over <shudder>.

And to be fair to his fellow Americans, he was pretty well ridiculed for the declaration.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

unfortunately FF you did - but did they realise on which side his father had fought and the implications of that support? - but maybe in Trumps newspeak this might be seen as a positive virtue.

I put it on Facebook too, and my brother responded in similar vein. I was so flabberghasted I couldn't get it out of my mind. Did I mention that … oh, yes, maybe I did

Yes, I heard Obama at 9am. Human, literate, intelligent, wise....nuff said. Haven't seen the TV one yet.

David Olusoga on history and a new edition of 'Black and British: A Forgotten History':

The professor and broadcaster discusses writing black Britishness back into history, the backlash this provokes – and why he’s so proud of his heritage
