Indeed, though although he has been called right wing, at times I thought he was quite searching, or did I miss something? And there's more from Murdoch to come as well, as if we didn't have enough holes in our heads already, what with rubbish programming and nothing to watch but coronavirus coverage!

It slavishly follows a news agenda set by oligarch media tycoons. Instead it should be investigating power, money and their influence on our lives, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Yes, I read that, particularly: "The really big questions – such as the gathering collapse of our life support systems – are, on most days, outside the circle of light. Above all, because the BBC is unconsciously led by the oligarchs’ agenda, it fails to confront the greatest source of political power: money. The BBC represents politics as a matter of preferences, rather than as a matter of interests."

As a media outlet it is desperately in competition with others in the field, and follows them rather than ploughing its own furrow. Much like Radio 3. Monbiot concedes that this is 'unconscious', that they view themselves as impartial. But they highlight the trivial (entertainment) and don't regularly delve into the important issues (information/education).
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Monbiot encapsulates everything that is wrong with the BBC's supine platform for the British establishment. The truth is that one really has to look to the foreign correspondents to glean any objective critique of our own government by way of their commentaries on the like agendas of Trump and co - by which I mean much the same could be said, but is never ever said until it is too late from our end, in evaluating the way our government goes about its business, and those who suffer the most as a consequence.

"insisted it will conform to Ofcom rules on impartiality". Isn't this obligatory? In the US no network is 'impartial': It's either a little Liberal, or else a little Conser-vative. The liberal networks are as 'outrageously' partial as the right-wing ones. But I was under the impression that all UK broadcasting was regulated by Ofcom.

One of the main problems with reactionary ideas is that they're so deeply ingrained in the collective mindset [sic] that they can be triggered in the twinkling of a cliché, whereas in just broaching alternatives it takes wordy tomes to undo their illogic. What Rome built can be destroyed in a day, etc etc.

Well of course, to the Guardian everything is right wing.

Not really, is it? Anything to the right of it is right-wing, anything to the left of it is left-wing. I wonder where you would put the 'neutral' point among UK media. Daily Telegraph? Times?

Probably the BBC even now. Its a good guide when the Mail/Telegraph say it is too left wing and the Guardian says it's too right.

It wouldn't be a bad idea if we were to define what we mean by left and right wing, wouldn't it?!

For most of my generation who are left wing inclined, it would define left wing principles as granting intelligence to informed thinking, unmediated by privileged disseminators of disinformation (through mass media, education etc) in the interests of maintaining the political status quo.

I think a lot of neutral and right wingers would see these as their principles too.

It really gets worse when you look at things like Brexit and extreme right politics because much of their support came from left voters.
