Whatever the reality, neither is what is needed or wanted at a time like this. If it is incompetence then he needs to be sidelined at the least to let others try and make a better stab at it, if it's a performance as far as I'm concerned that's even worse as then he's knowingly playing with people's lives on a stage he has created of the country for his own gratification.
I still could not actively wish him dead but I am beginning to think bad thoughts about regretting that he recovered... and I could do without such poison seeping in to an already overburdened mind.

I don't think Cummings was clear as to the precise guidelines that he was following, but even the more relaxed regulations are clear that you cannot travel to a holiday/second home or stay in any home but your own.

They are probably wise to accept the 'indiscretion' - which was the drive to Barnard Castle, given that they maintained social distancing, and nabbing Cummings for that would be doing him for what they had turned a blind to others doing. The eyesight story was just a bit of Cummings's warped humour. The other bit was that the police say on driving to Durham they 'didn't consider that regulations had been broken' was acceptable in light of the anonymous email saying "You finger Cummings and …" etc etc)

Moving on from the irony of the above, the BBC Fact-Checker is good here (well, bad, actually, blast!), in that it's clear that the police only deal with the law, that is, what was contained in the original Act passed by parliament. They do not deal with infringements of the government's guidelines, which takes the responsibility back to Johnson and his government.
