An interesting refutation of Fox News promoted theory that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that gives rise to COVID-19, was genetically engineered:

One of the biggest outstanding questions of the COVID-19 pandemic is the origin of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus responsible for the disease. One idea, put forward by some news sites like Fox News and government officials, is that SARS-CoV-2 was man-made. As very few living people have witnessed a pandemic of this scale before, it is … Continued

Oh the arrogance of mankind! Nature is incapable of anything on a grand scale so it must be human engineered.

Governments must build on on the lessons of 2020 to defeat the next outbreak, says Devi Sridhar, chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh

Interesting that figure of 650,000 deaths worldwide from flu. People have reportedly said (probably not recently) that deaths in this pandemic are 'no worse' than the annual flu deaths. I see the latest figure for the Covid deaths is about 2.7m.

The article says there will be other pandemics, not a case of if but when, which seems like a truism. But it doesn't say whether we are moving towards some sort of 'global crisis' when pandemics will become more frequent.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

There is an interesting and reassuring (despite the headline) article on The Guardian website about the effect of the vaccinations on hospital admissions.

In addition to the Guardian article, it is very much worth looking at the paper which SAGE considered. It shows the spread of hospitalization in the days following vaccination, with very few cases/hospitalizations indeed after 3 weeks (from the date of vaccination).

The French seem to be in a real mess

Online conspiracy theories are exacerbating existing vaccine scepticism.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Zoe has not changed her clock. I was reminded to report in at 10.15 (perhaps she has abolished DST?).

Zoe is the developer and provider of the Covid Symptom Tracker app, produced for the King's College coronavirus research project which some here have been using. The reminder came at 9.15 each morning until today when it didn't come until 10.15. Hope this helps

Did you carefully plan to post #5254 with the hour and minute figures of my #5253 reversed?

I think this app and project has been possibly the most heartening thing for me.about this last year. Admittedly not a crowded field, but still.
