Had to chuckle when I read this in todays paper...

In the affected areas, people will no longer be allowed to mix with anyone outside their own household in any indoor setting.
In other words, you will be banned from going for a drink or a meal with someone you don't live with, in a pub or restaurant. The BBC has been told mixing in pub gardens or outdoor restaurant spaces will not be illegal but goes against advice.
The measure comes into force on Wednesday 30 September and affects Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.

Our village straddles the border between Cumbria and Northumberland. Come election time, we have two polling stations. We also have two pubs. One is in Northumberland. The other in Cumbria. Cumbria doesn't have the new rules !

(a) it is extremely unlikely your computer can run Android code (let alone Apple's code)
(b) it is possible that your computer has a Bluetooth Low energy interface though if it does you probably know all about the tech
(c) unless you lug your computer with you to the pub all it will do assuming both (a) + (b) is to track those that come within 1m of your computer
(d) the only potential benefit I see can be more easily done by just searching on your postcode for the situation in your area

Unless you go somewhere that uses ancient tech - pen and paper - to record contact details. To all intents and purposes I don't have a mobile phone(it's a £10 dumb phone) so I am in the same position, except for the library which takes name and phone number each time, and work when I'm there.
Isn't the Covid app supposed to be anonymous ie it just reports contact? I realise that there's no such thing as anon in those circumstances but I thought the point was that no names etc are disclosed.

Amid the accelerating policy U-turns, I personally shall be sticking to the simple requirement to mask up whenever in indoor situations frequented by the public, such as shops, as well as outdoors in crowded streets, as well as hand washing in the prescribed way on returning home, and disinfecting whatever items I have bought, along with keys, loose change, and so on. TBH I am finding the news so depressing these days that I am starting to ration watching or listening to it. If in consequence I miss out on some latest decree and am found to be in transgression, I shall leave it to The Authorities to deem as necessary.

Best go out for a drink with you 5 mates while you can, S_A! I have up following the broadcast news a long time ago. We were in the South West when the NE went into extra lockdown nearly two weeks ago and were completely unaware, until our daughter told us on the Friday morning.

Now we are back home and in super-lockdown - coming to a borough near you shortly, by all accounts.

Robert Peston asked what is different now from the 21st March, with very similar starting positions. Possibly things are different now - the doubling rate is (allegedly) less than then. One thing we don't really know (we - as in the great unwashed publc - though I did have a shower today ...) i whether there are multiple strains, and if they are now significantly different from the first wave.

Note also that some people have crawled out of the woodwork and admitted that they didn't self isolate as required. That seems like water under the bridge to me now, and the police have said it would be difficult to chase everyone up who has committed an "offence" of that kind. In the meanwhile the PM is still suggesting that everyone who transgresses will be hunted down and punished - yet he still advocates "common sense"!

Some of us have barely left the house since early March, and I know of those who literally haven't, so the relentless bad news isn't what we want to hear. For myself, I've remained in more or less semi-lockdown mostly because there hasn't been anything in the past few months that made it worthwhile travelling. No Proms, no concerts, no race meetings and round here even the public toilets have remained shut. On top of all this friends have been reluctant (as have I) to meet up, deeming restaurants and pubs unsafe environments. Did meet up with one or two friends out of doors in the good weather but it meant travel for the rest so it's been the telephone and email since March.
