More paranoia ? We really should be very, very worried about where we are being dragged.

Oh yes, from next week, we have to scan a QR code for track and test if we want to participare in our little monday night running group. Five of is, ourdoors, distanced.

    Madness. Absolute madness.

The NHS does not have bottomless pockets. "The quick-turnaround tests will be available free for patients with symptoms, but those who want them in order to avoid social distancing may have to buy one."

Well if you are ok with having to pay for a test each time you want to go to the theatre/conference/ concert/ work/ on the train/ whatever , then you go along with it.

But once we set off down that path, there will be no going back. So I’ll be fighting it any way I can.

Oh, and the NHS may not have bottomless pockets, but boris seems to have £100 bn up his sleeves for this. And if that doesn’t set alarm bells ringing it really should. They aren’t going to ‘ invest’ money on that scale without a massive payback, and the payback is control, and whats more, they can get us pay the investment back.

It's not Johnson who has £100 BN, it's the taxpaying public (now and for a long way into the future). He 'merely' gets to redistribute it. If you think a hefty proportion of it should go to those wanting to go to the theatre while others maintain their distance, then I'm dead against your plans for how my and others' tax payments should be used. Until the current health emergency abates, NHS funding must go where the need is greatest, and that does not include aiding access to theatres other than those in hospitals.

What path ? What's wrong with being asked to test to see if you're going to infect all and sundry ? Are you one of those 'Covid is a hoax' wallahs ?

I think you have completely missed the point. As well as a public health problem, we have a very serious attack on freedom happening. Parliament sidelined. Contracts handed out without tender to cronies. Laws passed withourpt discussion implemented with ever increasing penalties. Vital social contacts needlessly banned . Another concurrent public health emergency happening right here and now, quite likely 40% of excess deaths. “Health passports” will be one more step along an authoritarian path.

Don’t believe me, read the John Harris piece. And that is actually probably a bit moderate in tone, given todays developments.

Read the John Harris piece for a “ proper “ view. And that was before todays developments.

You know what? We have a 17 month old grandson. He barely knows what other children of his age look like, just at the age when he should be mixing with them . He is desperate to mix with others. But because of deliberately engineered hysteria and quite shambolic public policy around a nasty public health issue he can’t.
It is heartbreaking, and it is unnecessary.

Oh, and now we can’t see him, my son, and his family for another god knows how long, again quite needlessly.
We are being played, and are already suffering the consequences.
So take your ‘ wallah” comment, and stick it .

On the surface, this does not appear to compute. My next-door neighbours comprise 2 adult parents and their 2 children, a girl and boy aged 12 and 10 respectively. Directly across the road live another family of 4 with the children again being a girl and boy of similar ages (I do not know their precise ages). The 2 women, with the 4 children, often go for long walks together and all 8 will occasionally hold events with each family in its own front garden. indeed, I sometimes join in from my adjacent garden on my side of the road. Oh, and one of the fathers is a police officer, the other a builder. So, I wonder, what is it that prevents interaction in your family circumstances?

I will concede that Egland needs to get on board with the Scotish rules on children under 12 or the Welsh ones on children under 11

The issue is that many people are very frightened, unreasonably so in many cases, I suggest. (And just to be clear, caution at this time is certainly important).
Plus there is now a completely illogical rule of six which when you have a family of five is kind of inconvenient.

I'll do that for now (until I get bored ).

Additionally, I'll upload the maps to box.com where anyone who is interested can see the latest version and flick between the maps for various dates to see how things have progressed. (The maps for 16th and 17th are currently uploaded.)

                                The link is: https://app.box.com/s/35gcefnwp0sjhb1q4yhyf6f8496ratto

As far as I can tell, the data and the method I am using is very similar to that employed by the BBC. They are currently displaying w/e 18th (having jumped from the 15th) whereas I have calculated w/e 17th from the same data - it is always a compromise between timeliness and greater accuracy. I prefer my maps (well I would say that) - pity they aren't interactive. (For that they would need to be embedded in a website.)

Why am I doing it? Well, initially it was a challenge - working out how. I'll see how things go and whether the maps are useful.
