The Select Committee seems to be pinning at least some of the blame on NHS England.
NHS England seems to be pinning at least some of the blame on the Government, presumably Matt Hancock in particular.
The Government/Matt Hancock will probably pin at least some of the blame on the scientists and experts.
Is it any wonder people don't know whom to believe?

6th largest economy indeed!! They've been allowed to get away with these meaningless lines so easily and comprehensively.

We either align to Europe, China or the USA in relation to trade and all that it affects - especially the most important issue - the threat to our planet. Why do we want to hang on the coat tails of a country (I fear) so comprehensively failing its periodic intelligence test? (OH, hang on a minute, overall, we haven't done so well recently either.....).

John Crace in the Guardian so often nails it. Give Hancock some understanding - he had Covid 19 and must be drained with the workload over these past months. Doesn't absolve him from responsibility - he seems to be retreating into some fantasy world. Repeat the Mantra he believes and we will believe it too.

Shades of Hogwarts - we are expected to forget the evidence of these past weeks and believe he put a shield around the care sector rather than presiding over their abandonment, after, for example, infected patients were exported to care homes and supplies of PPE were commandeered by the NHS. Today the care home sector seem to have found a voice to represent them (Prof. Martin Green evidene to select committee).

Not wishing to disagree, but all this about trading relations etc will have to change at some time if we are to re-build a worldwide economy around ther idea of greater income and employment accessibilty and environmental sustainability than that dictated by market forces and strength in arms in which The West is always the "winner". Subject for a different discussion, p'raps, but not one that can be postponed for ever, given the situation.

Will Johnson ever front up at one of these daily briefings again ? Another nonentity today. And we don't even get Whitty and Vallance any more ( not that they have much credibility left ) They are now simply very, very defensive and evasive. Frankly they have no shame. The figures they are presiding over are woeful.

Really bad today wasn't it? I mean really really bad .........."er, there's an announcement on er, Thursday...?...er, could you wait till then er... please..?"

Practical and political challenges loom, testing ministers and stretching government structures like never before.

                      Post virus concerts ?

Will Audiences Come Back to the Concert Hall? When we return to the stage to present opera, dance, theatre, or symphonic works in our 2,000+ seat halls, will our subscribers be there with tickets in hand? This is the question spreading like wildfire through every board meeting in America. It is the question keeping Artistic Directors, General Managers, agents, and artists up at night. It is an interesting question. But it is the wrong one.The problem is not audience participation. It may drop, but

I think the key phrase is

                          a comprehensive contact

No effing way with this sack of shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The dangerous thing now is that as everything is focussed on LONDON where maybe the peak has passed, then the rest of the country are being sacrificed to "restart the economy" ...

BMJ (though it's dangerous to treat the "UK" as a single place)

A couple of news items this morning which show that the UK government isn't alone when it comes to bungling (although we're clearly close to the top of that particular table )
                              (1) A class action is being brought against the Canadian government because of its policy regarding care homes during the Covid crisis.
                              (2) Racecourses in France that reopened a week are to be closed again.

Just listen back to today's 'More or Less' on R4.
Bllmey!!!! They follow the BMJ stuff, but add a few other things.

How stupid does this govt think we are?

And they wonder why some people are getting more and more grumbly about lockdown......?
