Another software app (for smartphones) that is probably worthwhile is the Covid-19 symptom tracker developed in conjunction with King's College London. Users are asked to report daily (there is a reminder) on whether they have been tested, whether they feel normal or not, and if not, what their symptoms are. There are currently over 2 million users.

All complex proteins are made of one or more strings of amino acids, folded in on themselves in complex – but predictable – ways to make 3D shapes. By applying those predictable rules, even a home computer can carry out folding calculations, and when millions of home computers are running the software at the same time, the total network can far outpace traditional supercomputers.

There is a paper published on Tony Blair's "Institute for Global Change" website (yes ... I know ... but bear with me) titled "Covid-19 Testing in the UK: Unpicking the Lockdown".
It contains some interesting information about other countries and I think it is definitely worth a read (one can scroll down past TB's "forward" if one wishes).

Even the bit by Blair seems reasonable.......I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

So it's not all doom and gloom, though there's a long way to go yet. There are clearly many operations going on in parallel and indifferent countries and companies and organisations around the world.
The economic consequences, if things turn out as in that paper, could be manageable, with targeted testing. However, things may still not turn out well in the short term, at least.
