One problem with making models to match the data is that they may not generalise well. In some applications that approach can be really good for interpolation, finding "values" for points in between data samples - (and of course in audio work and DSP interpolation is used a lot), but where one is extrapolating and using the approach for prediction this may not work at all well, particularly if there is a change of strategy or policies which affect the input data points - which is obviously what will be happening here, as changes are made in the hope of reducing the worst effects of the pandemic.
A cluster analysis approach might give better results, but that's not guaranteed. With most AI type models there is no silver bullet - no "best" model which works in all cases. Sometimes one only finds out which one was best after the event - which is pretty useless for practical situations. Modelling can throw up ideas, and sometimes people can gain insight by looking at them - but other times not!
Hindsight is a wonderful analysis tool!

https://www.sciencealert.com/bathroo...pread-bacteria There is obviously a difference between spreading viruses and bacteria, and some bacteria may not be that dangerous.
However, it would be good to know that Dyson's hand dryers haven't actually made a bad situation worse, or will do so now that the CV virus is spreading faster round the UK.

Yesterday, it seems a group of 15 twitchers were warned and sent home by police for gathering to see a ring ouzel in Cheltenham. The RSPCA said the gathering was "totally unacceptable."
Today once again I've seen several groups of cyclists and also motor bikers ignoring the social distancing measures to be taken to reduce social interaction.Last edited by Stanfordian; 27-03-20, 13:42.
