From what I can see the 2m social distancing is being adhered to by some two thirds the remainder ignoring. Yesterday the roads to Blackpool were busy with large and small groups of scooter riders and motor cyclists. The Lake district was very busy with visitors too.

It has been suggested to me that perhaps more people should be aware of Kübler Ross - for example see - https://www.cleverism.com/understand...-change-curve/ Maybe some of us are in shock, but one possible explanation for the actions of others, including the PM and others close to him, is that thay are still (hoping ...) in Denial.

If this wasn't potentially a huge threat this wouldn't matter so much.

There is a very interesting graphic on the FT website showing how the deaths in various countries have progressed over time. The countries mostly cluster around a 33% daily increase, plus or minus, swerving away from the 33% as more stringent measures are introduced.

The UK is currently above the 33% daily increase, higher than Italy and lower than Spain.

at that rate there will be (33% = double every 2.5days; 10 doublings = 2^10 = 1024 25days is end of Easter week - so for every daily death total that will give x1000 then

The latest report from Imperial College suggests that, as of last week, only 50% of the British public were practicing social distancing. Although 71% of people had changed behaviour (eg more handwashing), less than 50% of people aged 18 - 24 had changed their behaviour.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Local Sainsbury saga pt 2: NOW, there are no click-and-collect slots as well as no home deliveries, and NO response from 'Help Centre' - engaged signal all day.
So two-fingers 'stuff it' to govt about avoiding queuing at checkouts or too-close mixing.............

                  Baffled.

Something has happened with the coronavirus figures reported for the last two days: the percentage increases in the number of confirmed cases and in the number of deaths have both dropped significantly.

The rate of increase in the number of confirmed cases has dropped from circa 27% to 15% and the rate of increase in the number of deaths has dropped from from circa 32% to 20%.

The slowing of the rate of increase of the number of confirmed cases might be due to the increased social distancing measures that have recently been introduced.

The slowing of the rate of increase in the number of deaths is very welcome but a little curious. It *could* be related to the change of tack that the government made around the 10th March but there wasn't a drop in the rate of increase of confirmed cases following that change of tack. Welcome but curious.

Of course these might be blips due to administrative procedures, etc.

I've updated the Excel file linked to earlier in the thread.

Wonderful timing by Sainsbury when they closed their supermarket in the Bracknell town centre last month. They still have another store on the outskirts but that is just too far away for the like of me. I don't recall that in the town centre ever being poorly attended.

But it was almost certainly more expensive to run - higher rent and rates.

Sainsburys have two similar sized stores in Andover, one in the town centre, and one further out, but that is certainly walkable from many parts of the town centre. Thankfully they have kept the town centre one open, even though it never seems very busy.

Tesco closed its ( also seemingly popular) fairly large town centre store, a while after a big Asda opened up, but they have very large out of town store.

We have Social Distancing in our excellent village shop and post office as of today. Queue outside , 2 people in the shop at a time. Leisurely browsers arent going to be very popular !!

Plus they were right next door to a Poundland store.
