I would not normally link to a Daly 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts' Mail page but a friend's FB page led to it. I hope the "Free Intelligent Writing Tool" ad is in place. Shame the gutter rag does not offer intelligent writing:

The document shows that health chiefs expect the virus to last for another 12 months and also details how it will impact key staff in the NHS, police and fire brigade.

Could this possibly a paper that made great play of the term "project fear" in relation to those who oppose 'Brexit'?

Last night Launceston Ch. Soc. abandoned next concert 28 March and all rehearsals up till then. Closure for whole summer likely but further decisions to be made. Not cancelled is this morning's fund-raising coffee morning - because too late to inform public. So I'm just off to it, considering the gamble just about defensible on the self-interest and public-spirited stakes Probably won't stay long...

Cancellation of the ROH Fidelio screening tonight means I'll have to find Mrs LMP another birthday present!
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

You can read the Imperial College London modeling paper here:

This is the work now being used to directly influence the Government’s strategy both here and in the US.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

                  Sad but true
SO will the government step in and stop all our pubs becoming Spoons and the likes of Walmart taking over everything else?

(following on) how about the government told Branson to sell his f*cking island and PAY his workers ?

An 80 year old acquaintance returned from Line Dancing (!) last evening to find a note shoved under her door. She lives in semi-sheletered accommodation, i.e. a flat with a warden. It's on the sea-front.

                    The message said:

You are confined to your flat for 3 months
                    Strictly no visitors
Your door is like a moat so no-one in and no-one out
                    The communal area is closed
The lift is out of bounds
Order food online or get a relative to bring it and leave it outside

Er, is this legal??? She is, by the way, not one to be trifled with, so I guess the management will get an earful.

Certainly looks to be unlawful. Perhaps she should copy the note to her MP and the police. The authors might well have laid themselves open to a charge of unlawful imprisonment.

It is likely that the Management company could be liable if some of the residents fall ill and die and they had taken no measures to protect all of the residents from infection. For the same reason, Care Homes will now be banning visitors to make sure their residents are not inadvertently exposed to the virus.

These measures are intended to protect all of the residents, not just her. If the infection was carried into an enclosed environment like a Care Home, or sheltered accommodation, there is a risk that all the residents could catch it, and some might well die as a result.

However, some of this looks like overkill, and the instruction to buy food online, or ask relatives to shop for them may be impractical for many. For example, my mother lives in sheltered accommodation, but would be incapable of booking deliveries online, and we can’t visit regularly to shop for her, as we live a long way from her. They need to make sure all residents can still access food, medicine etc.

It could well be a hoax. A joke in bad taste. I remember in the 1970s many of us got hoax notices through the door. One said that we were being called up for military service.

Was it on headed paper? Has she called the management to ascertain whether it came from them? Either way, not the way I would expect any responsible organisation to communicate with its stakeholders.

Has anyone actually tried recently to order an online delivery ? If the supermarkets computers aren't down due to overload then they have no slots available. So much for asking the over-70's to stay at home. There's a lot of us who have no choice but to get in the car.
