Dental treatment seems really risky to me - and I've got what is currently a slight problem, which was supposed to have been sorted a few weeks ago. Hopefully it won't flare up for a few months. The problems with dentists are I think well known, and I hope that as things maybe start to normalise that adequate (and maybe more than) precautions will be taken, to protect both dentists and patients.

If I walk to the shops in town and back, which takes 20 minutes in each direction, I would say I'm exercising, especially if I'm carrying a lot of shopping on the return journey. If Matt Hancock bans exercise, does that mean I can only shop at the Spar store round the corner?

BUT the real issue is (IMV) one of "do as I say not as I do"
YES, we need to protect people and keep distances
but that's ok if you live in a big house in rural Suffolk and have land

The recent Scottish example is pretty clear
So what is your proposal ?

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital for tests. While I find it hard to trust or respect him as a politician, I wish him well as a human being.

I send Boris all my best wishes, and hope that he recovers soon. It seems a horrible disease to be brought down by, and I hope also that our trust in the NHS will be justified.

The Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC) published an updated report on patients in intensive care who are critically ill with COVID-19 on Saturday 4th April 2020.

The report provides an analysis of the patients who go into intensive care (age, sex, co-morbidities, etc) and of the outcomes. It is not a cheerful read and needs to be interpreted and put into context by someone with expertise in the field. Because of that I will merely provide two links for anyone who might be interested:

A summary by Prof Duncan Young, Professor of Intensive Care Medicine, University of Oxford of the report's notable findings: https://www.sciencemediacentre.org/e...search-centre/

I'm interested, and perhaps mildly personally encouraged, by the fact that there is no mention in the report of diabetes as a significant co-morbidity. This seemed to be being flagged in the early Chinese studies, but of course the fact that a lot of Chinese people at large, and thus a lot of those dead from coronavirus, had diabetes doesn't prove that it was in any way a significant factor in the deaths.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

I am quite concerned about the risk of the two 45 minute bus journeys.
I know taxis are expensive, but might it be worth a small dent in the life savings on this occasion? Less risk in the back of a taxi I would have thought.

Here, we are still being told that we don’t “need” full PPE when seeing positive patients. 12 Nurses infected at University of Illinois Hospital, 13 at University of Chicago where my wife works. A Pulmonary Doctor I know bought his own full set of PPE, wears it constantly, and was told by Hospital Administrators because he was “scaring” the Nurses. At Massachusetts General, 41 infected employees, and the Hospital releasing a statement that these were not work related.
I’d like to force Hospital Administrators to sit and triage patients and see how sanguine they feel about it

There are indeed some rich dentists, and perhaps even more in the USA. However, I believe that unless things have changed, their life expectancy is somewhat lower than in a number of other professions. I don't think that's because of high speed car crashes, or hitting trees while skiing down mountains.
