Please - if another poster makes you angry, please do not retaliate by attacking verbally.

Disagree, by all means, but without using insults to the other poster, or bad language (and the use of asterisks to avoid using certain words may not be acceptable either).

It would be a pity if the thread had to be closed because of a few people forumists losing their tempers.

There was a "Death in Paradise" episode with a similar theme.

34,504,804 Births (so far) this year
14,485,989 Deaths (so far) this year
20,019,146 Net population growth (so far) this year

Seemingly, nobody much ever talks about this. Trying to reduce humanity's toll on the environment in the face of it is largely like stacking water.

If CV-19 does turn out to be as bad as, or worse than, the 1918 pandemic, 50M excess deaths would merely be a brief burst of nature successfully retaliating via viral evolution before the onslaught resumes.
I like the "stacking water" phrase.

Population growth is a big problem, which people don't seem to want to talk about, or moderate.

However, from where I am now - already in existence - I don't particularly want to add to the statistic at the top of the list. I can blame my parents for getting me here, but that's been and done now. I have forgiven them for that.

it would be better hidden wherever you put political stuff. It no longer has anything to do with R3 or music and at the moment there are around 150 guest viewers who must surely feel the inhabitants are a bit odd.

This is "The New Radio 3 Forum". Radio 3 broadcasts news relating to the current Coronavirus emergency. Nothing strange about discussing it here.

A major reason I appreciate and use this forum is that it not only has the core R3/music material but also other topics. I learn from it all.

Indeed, likewise and presumably ditto for the vast majority.

Now probably isn't the opportune time for its contemplation (rather like everything else on the list bar the urgent one we can actually influence anytime soon) but the broad evidence suggests to the lay reader that relentless population growth is the underlying cause of the recent upsurge in significant zoonotic diseases. With continued untrammelled population growth they are only going to get more prevalent. Not a pleasant prospect.

I think this total includes deaths outside hospitals (care homes etc.), which haven’t been included before, and was expected to be much larger as there was a backlog to be included. Tomorrow’s figures may give a better idea where we are. In any case, because of the time lag between infections and fatalities, these figures won’t really show the effect of the lock down for at least another week or two, and they will continue to rise for that time. Hopefully, the rate of increase will start to slow after another week and before we reach the daily totals experienced in Italy.

The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

                          Gaia attempting some corrective action?

                              It's still a scary figure!

I hope it was coincidence that you posted this after my post #1168 unless you saw something that caused offence in that reply, Alps!
