https://www.sciencealert.com/bathroo...pread-bacteria There is obviously a difference between spreading viruses and bacteria, and some bacteria may not be that dangerous.

However, it would be good to know that Dyson's hand dryers haven't actually made a bad situation worse, or will do so now that the CV virus is spreading faster round the UK.
Yes I’ve often wondered about the water that accumulates in the bottom of those ‘flesh creepers’, an maybe ‘towel dust’ is less of a disease carrier!

A minute was about all I could manage - my hands being so chapped following repeated washings, with the skin braking open at the knuckles, that I shall have to put at least half a dozen plasters on tomorrow! But it was a pretty good turnout, with especially enthusiastic contributions from the Spanish family in Flat 2.

Thanks for this. I still need to check that 14% figure - whether it only applies to the high risk group who actually become infected. I still haven't read that article so I don't know.

One problem with making models to match the data is that they may not generalise well. In some applications that approach can be really good for interpolation, finding "values" for points in between data samples - (and of course in audio work and DSP interpolation is used a lot), but where one is extrapolating and using the approach for prediction this may not work at all well, particularly if there is a change of strategy or policies which affect the input data points - which is obviously what will be happening here, as changes are made in the hope of reducing the worst effects of the pandemic.

A cluster analysis approach might give better results, but that's not guaranteed. With most AI type models there is no silver bullet - no "best" model which works in all cases. Sometimes one only finds out which one was best after the event - which is pretty useless for practical situations. Modelling can throw up ideas, and sometimes people can gain insight by looking at them - but other times not!

Hindsight is a wonderful analysis tool!

Very interesting and substantial article on the rush to create a vaccine.

The long read: Around the world, more than 40 teams are working on a vaccine for Covid-19. We followed one doctor in the most urgent quest of his life

Stage 2 presupposes a system where the votes cast are reflected in the resultant administration. For far too many of us our non-Con vote doesn't even make ripples in the deep blue ocean we live in - doubly frustrating.

                    Indeed

It only applies to those who have votes that are worth something

The ERS have published their report on the GE - the votes of 45.3% of all voters failed to elect a candidate. That doesn't reflect the real advantage to the Tories either, since the SNP were also over represented. So probably nearer 50% of votes that were cast for Labour, Lib Dems and Greens were worthless.

Yesterday, it seems a group of 15 twitchers were warned and sent home by police for gathering to see a ring ouzel in Cheltenham. The RSPCA said the gathering was "totally unacceptable."

Today once again I've seen several groups of cyclists and also motor bikers ignoring the social distancing measures to be taken to reduce social interaction.
