So - we are all going to have to act according to our own "common sense" etc. What happens if an employer insists on staff returning to a work environment, and an individual refuses on the grounds that it's not safe? If the employer insists, the employee might be dismissed, or then be able to claim constructive dismissal. It gets more interesting if an employer asks staff to turn off any monitoring system which might detect asymptomatic Covid. Then what happens if a member of staff actually does get Covid and this is known in the organisation - does this cause mass walk outs? Who is responsible? Who is going to "get sued" and what will the outcomes be?

A muddled mess - which seems commonplace these days!
Very strong points, Dave. Who decides on "common sense"? The individual or those who have the power to order others around and take action against them for disobeying? As with everything else Johnson blathers on about "personal responsibility" with no regard for this as he and his colleagues sit on high lording it from remote distance, and too many are taken in. The country seems bent on a slow collective suicide - how did it ever come to this?

      About health …

What gets me is that when They want us to act in conformity with their Diktats, "We're all in this together, chaps and chappesses", but once they wash their hands of everything, responsibility becomes the individual's: do what you judge is best (for you) - never mind the other blighters.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The situation, of course, is very different now, but I am rather reminded of Sweden's go-it-alone policy which resulted in more than three times the number of deaths than Norway, Finland and Denmark put together. Sweden is certainly a busier transport hub than Norway and Finland, but this is a point being made about the UK by these scientists.

Already Bristol has suspended garden waste collections for 10 weeks because of a shortage of drivers, Covid cited as one reason, and there was no fortnightly waste collection here yesterday. 'Collateral damage' can be caused by unlocking too.
There is what looks like becoming a long-term gap in the food section of our local Spar shop, and the paper bank in the car park is stuffed to the very top.

(* Actually I'd need to check what she said - maybe there is a minimal occurence somewhere in France)
Something like 85 cases of the beta variant in Mainland France. In two départements (974 La Réunion and 976 Mayotte), the beta variant is prevalent (although recent increases in Réunion are of the delta variant) so there are more cases. However, as both these départements are firmly located in the Indian Ocean, there seems to be a lesser risk than might be believed by whoever advises the UK Committee. I do wonder if they actually checked the physical location of 974 and 976 - or have no idea where Réunion is in terms of the globe. They might be forgiven Mayotte - I had to look that one up last year when it had the highest rate in all of France. Anyway, all it has done is produce a "tit-for-tat" response from the French Government. Oh la la!

Perhaps I should have said that for the most part, there was none to be had, not even for ready money.

An F1 hybrid Exiguous Plethora can grow almost to the size of a pumpkin but a Paucity no larger than a tomato

... I think you will find that Exiguous plethora died out in the cretaceous-paleogene extinction event. The Paucity is a rather underpowered Korean car

There is of course the rather unfortunate inherited condition also known as Exiguous Plethora, rarely seen in its untreated form these days

I always confuse Mayotte and Mayenne.
