Whilst most (?) people probably have a mobile phone they don't necessarily live in an area with consistently good reception. As for track and trace... I bought a smartphone (my first) five years ago but it is too old for the track and trace app. I'm afraid I couldn't justify buying a new smartphone when my current one was still working perfectly well. So, yes, I agree - erroneous assumptions on the Govt's part.

Well - the story splashed last week - the local council deployed pumps to save the vial production centre on the Wrexham Ind Est whilst saying the location was kept secret.

Presumably someone wanders over, takes a photo of all the activity (pumps etc) and its all over ****book and social media so anti vaxxers/soviet agents (take the conspiracy theory of your choice) can send a package.....

I suppose now they'll take a few obvious steps like receiving "packages" away from the facility and securing its location?

Maybe the GP's system has a marker for "doesn't answer the phone, hasn't got a mobile or voice message facility, throws away letters unread......." In a pandemic emergency, that might result in a policy "move on to the next patient and wait for this person to contact us......."
I once had an agreement with an allotment neighbour (no mobile) to leave messages on a card placed in the split of a cane attached to a post by his shed door.......

            Secret location indeed:

"In Touch" Radio 4 last night.

A lot of discussion about the failure of the systems in dealing with the pandemic to adapt to the needs of blind people - obviously with most impact on those living alone. ANd now being called, or not, for the vaccine.
At About 9 minutes a GP, quite resentful at how the GP primary care service had been left out of many of the services and stressing that they have the information about how best to contact their patients and generally serve their interests.....

(As evidenced on threads here on FoR3, it has to be said, though, that some GP practices are more effective than others.....)

I haven't had a letter from the NHS but my local doctor's surgery phoned me this morning to offer me a jab on Friday.

Back in the day quite a lot of messages were exchanged by similar methods on my site. Those with greenhouses made life easier when it came to distributing newsletters and seed catalogues, as such items could be left there rather than having to be taken round to home addresses.

....my father always said carrying around messages in such a way as you describe - would be an ideal carreer for me.....

As you say GP practices are variable, but never the less the sidelining of local capability in favour of national schemes for so much of the covid arrangements has not been beneficial. The local rag reported on a team being set up in the city to go and knock on doors to follow up Covid contacts - which until now they haven't been able to do as it has had to be done by the Serco T&T, which hasn't released contact details. Funding has been provided and the aim is not just to inform about self-isolation but to ensure the necessary is in place in the way of practicalities - money, shopping, support etc. Being local they will know what the particular problems may be and also have better liaison with the community. Coupled with local T&T where it exists which reaches about 90% of those it needs to(cf about 58% I think for the Serco et al system) it could be really effective. Needless to say the public spirited intelligent denizens of the comments colony were fully supportive "Yet more tax payers money being wasted!" "Give somebody a hi viz and watch the power go to their head." being typical. I despair.

A former colleague, not in the highest tiers had a phone call at 9-30am to ask if she would like and was able to attend at 3pm that day. A no-show/cancellation meant a surplus jab to use and presumably they just worked through a list until her name came to the top.

It must have been all the Aadvarks who were no shows as she's the other end of the alphabet... I don't know what the demographic is where she lives, but as she is at least 70 her group might be at the top by now anyway.

Just my timeline: rung on Wednesday, jab on Friday.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
