China has been sending out missions of medics, ventilators, etc. to the worst affected countries (e.g. Italy, Iran), in some cases freely donating ventilators and thousands of test kits. IMHO a much better example of international cooperation in times of crisis than certain governments closer to home and across the Pond.

You're bang on the money. It's wishful thinking.

As for online orders...Ocado have implemented a similar system to the booking system for the Proms. A 'virtual' waiting room on one system (which requires minimal computer resources) while all the heavy lifting is done by the main system as per normal.

Same friend said her message was "You are in position 1008 out of a queue of 18,387. Your wait time is estimated to be one hour"

I've just registered for Waitrose and Sainsbury's. The first available home delivery date for Waitrose was in exactly three weeks time. There are no home delivery dates available within the three week calender for Sainsbury's.

So, to avoid the crowds, it looks like I'll be doing midnight shopping at my local 24 hour large Tescos - when it is normally very quiet indeed. (Alternatively, I could do early morning, say 7am-8am at Tesco/Sainsbury/Waitrose/etc, after the shelves have been restocked overnight but I am very much a night owl.)

Shelves were empty of practically all edibles when I visited my local Sainsburys just now. Apparently several local schools had decided to close down this morning without notice, and so parents with children unexpectedly in tow decided it was good times to catch up on some hoarding. I have to say the vibes were remarkably friendly and good-humoured wherever I've been, scarcities notwithstanding, and even compared with normal around here - are people being made more aware of their own mortality, I wonder? Or just enjoying the liberating feeling of shedding their "customised" expectations?

I've been watching the press conference. I wish I could say that it filled me with confidence. BJ cracking jokes about ventilators and yet again dodging a question about schools.

Rishi Sunak however was a deal more serious and got the tone right. Comparisons will have been drawn?

Indeed. I preferred Status Quo! The right beat at the right time.

It sounds a bit like the shameful notice that was put up in a Norwich block of flats on Brexit Day.
Care Homes and sheltered accommodation are not the same thing; the former is the equivalent of a hotel with much of the day to day activity of necessity being communal and many external people going to and fro, whereas the latter is more akin to a block of flats, although some residents may have carers coming in. The only thing that might be relevant on that note is not using the communal area/meeting room.
