Some of us can remember that when Hillary Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia during the campaign in 2016, Trump’s immediate reaction was to mock her and call into question her fitness for office:

‘But here's a woman, she's supposed to fight all of these different things and she can't even make it 15 feet to her car. Give me a break. Give me a break."

Biden has been more gracious, and wished Trump a speedy recovery.

define what it is you are optimising - personal freedom (?how measured) , GDP or some as by you unspecified function of the previous two or maybe something else altogether - without defining what outcome you desire you cannot optimize merely mouth platitudes. It is true that with hindsight historians will point out that certain outcomes were avoidable but that is to be left for the no doubt many PhD theses of the next decade

It seems a bit premature to say that things are levelling off - but there just might be hint of rate of increase slowing.

I wasn't sure whether to post this map as it really needs to be associated with another showing the level of cases/100k in each local authority - and I don't want to flood the forum with graphics.

Yes that does look questionable so I've taken another look.

I've excluded local authorities with cases/100k less than 20 from the list, because of the limited space.

The only As and Bs that would have qualified are Aberdeenshire (Cases: 10/100k, Increase: 138%) and Angus (Cases: 18/100k, Increase: 125%) but their cases/100k are both less than 20 for w/e 27th. They are both included in the map, of course.

(I had been wondering whether to change the sort order to the descending rate of increase.)

Indeed, though this graph suggests that Lewis and Harris might be somewhere to avoid, but it could just be showing 3 cases where before there was only 1. I don’t know what the actual data for those islands is. If there’d been no cases before the change would be infinite!
