Just relax, everyone! Care homes and hospitals can be staffed by fishermen who've had to sell their boats. Patients will be discharged once they sign a form promising to pick crops. This, together with the raising of the retirement age to 80 and the fact that lots of people won't be able to afford to stop working because everything will cost more, should help PP to keep immigration down. However, just in case this masterplan doesn't work ..... don't get old and don't get sick.

Shame it was mostly older people that voted for this lot, isn't it ?

I don't see ANY solidarity between generations.Or very little at any rate. It could be argued that other groups which - unwittingly or not - may have voted against their own best interests were farmers and fisherfolk.
* Mind you, she claims to have enjoyed the most recent episode of 'Endeavour'....

So[sic], those hoping to come to the UK will have to show proficiency in English. Hang on, what about those intending to work in parts of Wales where Welsh is the first language? Is this the ugly return of the Welsh knot? Likewise Scottish or Scots Gaelic in parts of Scotland.
Now we are informed that Patel wants rid of Philip Rutnam. Surely it's the oily rag, not the engineer we need shot of.

One or two commentators have read between the Patel rhetoric on quotas and believe that the hard-line stuff will be ameliorated where genuine labour shortages exist, in fact she said so herself.
Time will tell, but as someone who actually used the work permit system of the 60's and 70's - partly reliant on proven inability to fill jobs with UK workers (it worked fine) - to bring unskilled Italians, Serbo-Croats and Bengalis to this country to fill jobs that British workers would not come near despite recruitment drives in the unemployment black-spots of England, I have a suspicion that many, perhaps most of the hard-to-fill lower-paid jobs will continue to be filled by 'exceptional case' immigrants.
But who really knows.
