It's the "I" word, isn't it! "Immigration" is the word that no-one (until recently) was prepared to mention. A few years ago the "N" word (I won't type it, but we all know it) became (quite rightly) an offensive, pejorative word. The problem with the "I" word is that it was the REAL reasoning behind the Brexit outcome, but no-one in the political establishment were prepared to grasp the nettle. Result: Brexit! Had the immigration problem been met head on at the time, the vote may well have gone the other way, politicians would not be reacting in the way they are now and the inflammatory attitude of some groups would not have been given the oxygen they crave to stoke up people's emotions.

For all their talk about controlling borders and numbers making the UK their home, it's very hard to take the government's claim that it is only immigration from inside the EU that they and their Brexit supporters were concerned about. Where are all the £30k+ jobs waiting for non-EU applicants to fill?

I'm trying to avoid these things
BUT since those in charge seem intent on destroying my livelihood it's a bit difficult

                Quote from MP's opening paragraph:
'Priti Patel's record of abusive and undisciplined behaviour is as long as your arm ..... she should never have been allowed anywhere near a ministerial red box'
There's quite a bit more in the same vein.

Ms Patel gets a roasting in today's Observer too. Odd that these alleged tendencies of hers were never reported before, or maybe they were and I missed them.

Priti Patel and Sajid Javid are backing new immigration rules that would have barred their ‘unskilled’ parents from the UK, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

From an article in today's Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/politics...olute-nonsense

Brokenshire, the former communities secretary who has returned to government as a Home Office minister, told Sky News.“I think the home secretary is absolutely focused on the public good..."
                              Well that's alright then.
