    As I said.....

    Boris Johnson?
"Beware of what you want. You may get it."

I think he's a fantasist who at the peak of his realisations found.... he couldn't cope....

    That near-death Coronavirus experience?
"Life is what happens when you're making other plans..."
There is often an essential irrationally to human behaviour, which always runs up against responsibility at some point....which asks "who are you?"....
So its how you handle that....

Saddest, most tragic thing of all: he doesn't seem to have learnt from it...or be able to implicate (in his inner and outer worlds) what he may have learned, due to whatever inner or outer pressures...
(Cf... his praise for his nurses, then his initial refusal to remove migrant-worker NHS charges... a profound confusion there).

I've experienced all this myself and seen others through to the end.
So I can almost feel sorry for him, even as so many suffer directly from his and his government's insouciance, vacillation and hesitation, their decades-long neglect of essential provision for their citizens...

    Almost.

He wanted the job (PM) for the status it bestows without wanting to have to do any of the work associated with it IMHO.

... as Marina Hyde put it, " The thing about Johnson is that he desperately wanted to become prime minister, and he desperately wanted to have been prime minister. It’s just the bit in between he struggles with."

          He nearly achieved the latter.

Not that nearly. He managed to make do without intubation.

actually I think what he really wants is power without responsibility (the prerogative of the harlot to quote I think Acton)

He could still do that - though he doesn't have to die. Actually he will have been, whatever happens next, but I wouldn't be unhappy if it happened sooner, rather than later. However, who would you have to replace him? I don't think many people are going to queue up for the position right now.

The bumbling toff is a massive act. Well, the bumbling bit anyway. All so he gets his own way. If you’ve ever met the type you’ll know what I mean. Always followed of course with charmless hectoring when they don’t immediately get their own way, and then bullying. You just have to tell them to ***k off when they overstep. Is simple enough. Sadly for the nation nobody has to him.

I'm not totally convinced that the bumbling toff is always a massive act. He's not that good an actor, and sometimes he's just plain stupid. Sometimes though, he does seem very coherent, and what he says makes quite a lot of sense, though I think he's incapable of getting a lot of this done. Maybe he would have been better sticking to cardboard bus models, but who realistically would have done any better. That's a sad comment on our ever so able members of Parliament.

I don't find German the most pleasing sounding language but there are times when all that hissing and gutturals have their uses...
This is from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, quoted in a Guardian article about some of the international reaction to the Cummings issue.
The newspaper described him as the “öffentlichkeitsscheue, geheimnisumwitterte und oft diabolisierte Cummings” – publicity shy, shrouded in mystery, and often vilified.
I could work off quite a lot of anger spitting that out!
