Oh those poor intimidated medic and scientific advisers....! How will they be feeling now?

And in the light of the Emily Maitliss censure..... oh god I hope she's back next week, not that Barnett or Razzall exactly go easy on their subjects, thank goodness....
"Shielding" his advisers - the irony! Blond Ambition at his best worst.

      I can't believe I watched it.

Too right. A VERY serious miscalculation of the national mood, I'd say

He missed vital meetings on coronavirus, and was barely seen for weeks, but for Dominic Cummings he’s fought tooth and nail, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty

Whitty and Vallance should resign rather than be humiliated in such a way.

Perhaps Whitty is working on a retort.....

It's worth watching Chernobyl (and The Death of Stalin) to get an insight into some of what is going on. IMV

Any "scientific advisor" who isn't prepared to tell truth to power isn't to be trusted at all.

I'm not a scientist but surely part of the way that science works is for EVERYTHING to be questioned, tested, reviewed and published ?
Not just the bits that fit the story?

Though Boris did say that Piers Corbyn was a "great scientist"

as the great Johnny Clarke said......

I liked Fintan O'Toole's comment in the Guardian this week: 'The big, communal and institutional structure that gives a value to the millions of individual sacrifices has been kicked away – in Johnson’s defence of Cummings, the only value is the individual “instinct” of the members of the ruling caste. To use the Blitz analogy that England apparently cannot escape, it’s fine to leave your lights on during the blackout if you’re an important person with documents to read.'

Which is bad enough in itself. However if one applies the 'it's(buffoon) all a clever act' school of thought then isn't the Cummings episode a classic stirring of an ant nest and watching what happens? A thought I find rather more worrying on the whole.

Since that article was published, both Whitty and Vallance have confirmed that they don't want to have to comment on anything 'political' (Johnson having publicly forbidden them to answer 'political' questions).

Well, taking control of social media so that they can spread false allegations and fake news with impunity while opponents are gagged, for one thing?
