Smith's replacement, the thick-set Brandon Lewis, always makes me think in terms of an owner of a chain of dodgy second-hand car dealers, for some reason.

All of them - because they're all Schapps together. Incidentally, I believe Shapps Fell is somewhere not too far from you, eighth?

Wiki-checking reveals he was born in Harold Wood in 1971, I'd assumed him to be much older - so, hewn from the same Chingford-Romford-Basildon triangle that has produced a number of self-stereotyping clones of the Norman Tebbitt type. He would have been about ten when Mrs T dropped in to take tea with one of the first households to buy its council house at a marked down price, and that was on the Harold Hill estate, just up his road. I'm not at all surprised.

Anagrams of thick-set (with or without - ) welcome.

He’s certainly heading for one - I maybe misjudge him and his mum probably loves him but he always appears always to be a smug knowall.

Not since Alastair Campbell has a special adviser exerted power so publicly. But the influence of these political appointees is overdue for scrutiny, says James Butler, co-founder of Novara Media

I recently became aware of Accelerationism.

Anybody know much about it? Worth having a look at it, as I suspect that it , and similar philosophies, at some point inform the world view of people like Cummings.

The long read: The world is changing at dizzying speed – but for some thinkers, not quickly enough. Is accelerationism a dangerous idea or does it speak to our troubled times?

I think Boris is to be congratulated on making it clear who's actually running things in Downing Street, and propose that the Blessed Dom be knighted at the same ceremony as Colonel Tom.
