    My reference to "alternative presentations" was hinting at a daily publication (I hesitate to use the term newspaper) which has a very long history of hate campaigns, including a front-page headline in support of the British Union of Fascists.

        It’s hard to divine exactly what you are trying to say/discuss here. Searches for “British Union of Fascists” reveal some images, and references to an organisation which was banned. Trying to tie this to a specific newspaper outlet by adding in extra search terms doesn’t show much more, either. “sun”,”mail” and “telegraph” all give hits, but perhaps nothing controversial, and nothing that I can see from very recent times. Am I doing this wrong, or are you trying to dredge up a problem which doesn’t actually exist? That is not to say that I admire the views and opinions promulgated in some of the daily press, including, but not limited to, papers which have names including the words mentioned - and perhaps also the term “express”.

          How about "Hurrah for the Blackshirts"? As to Roy Greenslade's apologism, how can he ignore the infamous 'Leyland letter' forgery and innumerable other examples of far-right leaning fake news which characterises the publication concerned to this day?

              Here in NI Julian Smith was highly thought of by many people too, 8th. But I guess that he was sacked because of his loyalty to Theresa May rather than for succeeding in restoring devolution at Stormont when four other Tories had failed. I suppose success is not as important as being perceived as either a weirdo or a misfit, which obviously Julian Smith was not.

                It's a measure of the sorry state we've reached when it comes to having to choose between good and bad Tories. And this is not intended as a criticism in any way of eighthobstruction or of Padraig.

                    You mean - " I can't tell the difference between them - they're all the same" ?

                      I would never make a generalisation of that kind.

                        I would simply like to avoid posting direct links to the gutter publication which carried such headlines. I have not checked with other Internet search engines but Google leads straight to the source if the quoted headline is used as the search criterion. I feel it fair to assume that contributors here are familiar with the use of Google and the like. The two displayed responses to Greenslade's piece appear to share my disdain for his apologism.

                            Duck Duck Go offers a similar set of results.

                              I guess you know enough to handle the google tracker in this forum
                              <script type="text/javascript">
                              try {
                              var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-12256874-1");
                              pageTracker._trackPageview();
                              } catch(err) {}</script><!-- End Google Analytics -->

                              I was 'amused' by the BBC piece about the Chinese use of personal details to decide to intern significant portions of their non-Han population - the details read out are just as detailed a picture as Google + Farcebook etc build up on their naive users - Cambridge Analytica could gain more than enough indication of such users political + social beliefs to steer individual mail (a government along Chinese lines would use this information for even nastier purposes)

                                This is an informative/interesting article - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/extra/09j...downing_street

                                Doesn't warm me to DC though.
