What makes you think they're the "best people"? If they don't call out the government, they're not doing their job. (But if you think the government is doing a good job, your reponse is reasonable)

Unfortunately Any Answers turned out very disappointing - host Anita Anand ever berating the first caller to criticise Cummings (in pretty mild terms I may add) for not holding to the large list of callers who clearly felt differently: I think there had probably been about four up to that point; clearly Ms Anand had not taken into consideration the likelihood of caller co-ordination to get the same line (the press were doing their usual thing of damaging reputations etc.) in at the start of proceedings.

Professor Tam was splendidly forthright this afternoon, though.

              Well done!!

He also said, "Thank you for the question. I'm quite happy to answer it." Unlike the other two who said they didn't want to get involved with 'politics' - wherever that starts and finishes. "In my opinion [the rules] are for the benefit of all. And in my opinion, they apply to all." Yes, and moving swiftly on from that, do you have any further question Mr Public?

I heard it very differently.... a balanced selection, several very explicitly critical... all AA was doing was trying to be "balanced" herself... how vexing that can often be for BBC people.
She always sets out the various possible views each week, IMO very fairly. Just listen to the intro to see for yourself...
Listen without limits, with BBC Sounds. Catch the latest music tracks, discover binge-worthy podcasts, or listen to radio shows – all whenever you want

Asking caller 1 about DC's feelings as a father (as a representation of Zawahi's views) is just being Devils' Advocate, or alternative-view-advocate, really...and the very last caller was very critical of DC herself in the context of test track & trace, saying that he could have been a "super-shedder" of the virus...

If you want an attack dog there's always e.g. Nick Ferrari.... with Gove here, its very laugh-or-to-cry...
Michael Gove told LBC he had driven to check his eyesight, but he was "not an authority of driving" as it had taken him seven times to pass his test. When Nic...

Try after ca. 11' about ....eye-tests....

                  AS for Prof Van-Tam....
"In my opinion [the rules] are for the benefit of all. And in my opinion, they apply to all."

The perfect, coolly judgemental, pragmatic answer.

Cummings lied. His wife lied. Then again and again until the story went away. His poor neighbours, having those pieces of s in the same street.

It was typical Zahawi. He is one of the most aggressively tribal politicians and will always defend the government's line, often pugnaciously. (Do these people have no honour?)

Had he said ‘I panicked a bit, sorry, but I won’t do it again, honest - I’m a dreadful example to all those who are trying to do the right thing, keep calm - not like me and stay safe!’ Maybe we would have thought more highly of him but instead he came up with that stupid story, it’s ramblingness could almost have been scriptwritten by Boris. Interesting how things have, in some ways but not all, Profumo resigned not so much for what he did but that he lied - lying now is the norm it seems.

Depressingly, but predictably, the 'Mail On Sunday' clearly thinks it's more important to attempt to score points off the Guardian and the Observer than address such trifling issues as the problems associated with the return to schools and the relationship between the government and its non-political advisors. Not that the 'Observer' seems willing to let Barnard Castle Man out of its sights yet!
