My own politics are highly, some might say eccentrically, individual.

I would conclude that I am very much on the political right, principally because I don't like people that much and have an especially venomous contempt for anyone who might be described as 'ordinary and decent' by the likes of Nigel Farage.

I regard Brexit voters as a sub-species and would probably vote for a party that advocated the bombing of Cleethorpes, Doncaster, Basildon and Barnsley.

I would align myself politically with people like D.H. Lawrence and John Fowles - neither of whom identified as a right-winger (though some have speculated that Lawrence would have become a fascist had he lived longer; Fowles was a lifelong socialist and an admirer of Tony Benn, though he would be considered a rightist by anyone under the age of 35, because of his alleged 'anti-semitism').

Nevertheless, I have been a consistent Labour voter throughout my life, though usually on pragmatic grounds. I can't envisage the circumstances under which I would vote for a right-wing party as they are currently constituted.

Edited to add: I did the test and got the same result as Bryn.

Does that make you an extremist?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

My partner, albeit a Quaker, is obviously much more of a Tory Boy than I am: he scored -5.75, -4.56.

I’m surprised that the tories get much traction with the Quakers. More torque than one might expect.....

Within that particular frame of reference I suppose it would, but the frame itself is of course far from neutral!

(Mind you, my son once told me, in a friendly way, that he thought I'd been 'a little Victorian' when he was young, which - rightly or wrongly - I took as something of a compliment).

Mine was similar to Bryn's, but slightly more authoritarian.

Took my lenses out when I got home, I thought it said Librarian.

Anyway, about the same as AG, which is very comforting.

                          .

... well I too am in the bottom left quadrant, tho' more 'centrist' than others ( -3.13; -3.69).

Is there anyone in any of the other quadrants?

We may have to wait for the possible return of Beefy.

I was 3 from the bottom, on the extreme left. Same as Richard.

I have to say, I don't quite agree with some of the conjunctions assumed in the test's underlying analysis with regards to authoritarianism and libertarianism. Stalin, for example, would in my estimation be on the far right in any system. We would always prefer what we called "bourgeois democracy" to Stalinism as being more amenable to change, because it at least allowed one relative freedom of expression and the right to organise politically, while at the same time defending the Soviet Union's nationalisation of business and land as gains from an international(ist) perspective, the securing of which, defined according to socialist principles, depended on management and running bottom-up, not top-down, as - we would argue - history has proved. Doubtless Trotskyism (or what's become of it 35 years later in my case) would be seen in terms of the test as more libertarian, though he would probably roll in his grave to hear that!
