Good for Jocelyn Bell Burnell...she who famously discovered pulsars and was overlooked for a Nobel Prize in favour of her (male) supervisor.
She won some sort of award recently, and has generously given it (£2.3 million) to encourage the uptake of Physics by female and black students, especially in the field of research.

This is excellent. Dame Jocelyn should obviously have shared in that 1974 Nobel award, but it sort of worries me that some of the reporting veers towards the view that she and not Tony Hewish, who after all set up and directed the research programme of which she was a vital part, should have received it. Incidentally, the hapless reporter who did yesterday's piece on the Today programme misnamed her as "Joyce"
