Kate Forbes [SNP] was being interviewed and expressing great enthusiasm for the potential of wind and solar power - a great source of energy for Scotland. In the background there were hills with a significant number of wind turbines.

When it was reported later on that day on the BBC Scotland news the presenter stood in exactly the same position. Alas, the mist was so heavy you couldn’t see the turbines!

I've noticed, this time around, that all the parties broadcasting promotional slots seem to have just one ad for show on all channels, as compared with previous elections, when parties would issue several distinctively themed topics, for example on the environment, education, housing policies etc. Is this because less money is available for advertising purposes, or all broadcasters charging more? It's getting like the general commercial ads being shown over and over again, sometimes for years on end, until one gets so sick of the damn things one starts wishing for the companies to go out of business.

They have a clip of Angela Rayner being interviewed about how she'd like to end 'fire and rehire' and zero hour contracts. Then they fade up the Marseillaise in the background and superimpose a cartoon beret and stereotypically French moustache over her face. The clip ends with a couple of apparently unrelated campaign slogans. There must, I suppose, be some demographic they imagine this will resonate with, but I'm not sure I've ever met anyone from the 'gig economy good, French bad' community.

At the risk of sounding immodest, can I just say that as far as I'm concerned my policy of limiting my exposure to election-related material to an unavoidable minimum is proving a great success. The views of voters in Clacton were no match for the first of Beethoven's Opus 18 string quartets.

Well said. There's much that's positive about Britain, that can be used for improvement, hence so many people still want to come here to live.

The idea that the time requires a hero in shining armour to save us from disaster is very dangerous. This is what happened in Germany and Japan in the 1930s.
