Yes but we all want to make the world a better place (dont we?) and believe that what we love helps in that respect; and you're not pouring out your enthusiasm in sure knowledge that those on the receiving end are uninterested.

As a schoolboy I hated Shakespeare until an enthusiastic teacher with brilliant communication skills began reciting Shakespeare sonnets out loud to the class.

Be careful what you (don't) wish for!

Surely it's de rigeur for schoolboys to hate Shakespeare...

... ALL inspirational teachers, such as you describe should be given MBEs (or whatever) IMV.

No one's getting angry. But you et al do get, well, angry when people express disparaging comments about the politics you like. What's the difference between politics and music in this context?

I didn't say they were, did I? I meant people DO get angry (if you like: some people, sometimes get angry). People get angry if you say you don't Katherine Jenkins, or think she isn't very good. But it does sound a bit angry when you label comments 'stupid'. The music we hear affects different people in different ways. I remember having to turn off the CotW on the Minimalists because I was finding one piece (Steve Reich?) mentally very distressing. It was like a form of torture. I'm sure there are others who would find it interesting/enjoyable/fascinating. Would it be 'stupid' or disparaging to tell them the effect it had on me?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

As with everything, it depends on how you choose to express it.
