German, as might be expected, has lots of this type of compound words, many being close cognates of the English version e.g. nichtsdestoweniger = nevertheless

Insofar = insofern, which, unlike in English, has a parallel question form: 'inwiefern?" (inhowfar?). It is in very common use and especially popular with academics devising essay titles. This formulation of essay title is also a favourite in English, but we tend to use "To what extent ....? Or just the less satisfying: How far....?
