I have now noticed some Amazon reviews are presented with a caveat that the reviews may have been created using AI based on a sample of reviews from other sources.

Taking this idea further, it is possible to use some AI tools such as Bard to ask seemingly sensible questions, such as:

"Write me a compative review of Product A from 2020 with Product B from 2023 - giving any tables in pounds sterling, and focusing on value for money."

Even if the results are based on multiple sources [possibly unreliable] and maybe also biased, the speed at which this is done is very interesting - and possibly helpful for some people.

Maybe try it, but don't rely on it without cross checking by other means.

I'll be interested to know if anyone gives this a go.

Some commentators seem to be investing a terrifying amount of hubris in AI, as if thinking humans have ultimately found the elixir for all problems, when this is just projection. Surely it's vital that we recognise the infinitude of variables and imponderables as non-transcendable mysteries and use this insight as Rule No 1, determining for what we can ever know enough, for the sakes of ourselves and everything around us?

Yes - though I think that the commentators are often just trying to hype up their own importance.

OTOH - I would still suggest trying one or two of these systems - such as Bard, and put in a query of relevance to you.

Possible examples might be "Write me a comparative review of digital pianos costing under £4000 with acoustic pianos such as similar Kawai models".

You might be really surprised at how quickly something seemingly sensible comes back.

Of course the well known "wisdom" - "Garbage In - Garbage Out" still applies, so based upon your knowledge, or that of others you may trust, you have to evaluate any responses carefully.

In addition of course these AI systems may very well be tracking you, and doing other things you may not like, but that's another part of the deal I guess.

I console myself with the thought that if they do, they will not be tracking anything of interest or use to their aims!

Annoyingly listening to and commenting on radio 3...

                  Does that answer your query?

I personally have no opinion, but I simply asked Bard for a view.

It might be interesting to see if ChatGPT can do any better.
