I'm a bit puzzled (and as I said i'm no expert in the politics of this) that you seem to advocating NOT using the accurate word to describe this?
I always thought you were in favour of "plain speaking"?

rfg is, as ahinton points out, quite right to comment on atrocities in the foreign and domestic policies of 19th Century Britain (although semantically, he might accept that the first "concentration camps" - even though not so called - were the Indian Reservations in the United States dating from the 1830s - and I think he means the "Gordon Anti-Catholic Riots" - no knots were involved). This is the nature of being the "top" (in terms of economic and military power) nation - Britain then, the US now: in order to preserve what the political elite regard as a secure status quo, atrocities are committed.

And this results, when the US rightly condemns genocide in other countries, in the force of their argument being somewhat dissipated by that country being able to detract from its guilt by pointing out that "Chinook" is more closely associated with a military helicopter than a collection of people.
