Perhaps the BBC was getting withdrawal symptoms, having been unable to interview "special guests" during the intervals of televised Proms.

'a series of five curated editions of Radio 3 In Concert where much-loved figures outside the professional classical music world'
'BBC Radio 3’s much-loved presenter, veteran broadcaster Sean Rafferty'. They are so good to us, providing us with what we love so much!It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

For some time now he seems to have been afflicted with a terrible choking cough which is clearly audible when his guests are speaking on In Tune. I deduce from his Wiki entry that he must be in his early 70s. I admire his work ethic, but do wonder whether it's wise of him to have been traipsing into Broadcasting House on a regular basis throughout the winter.
The only time I've ever been to an awards ceremony was a Gramophone Awards evening at the Barbican. At the time they were doling out free tickets to subscribers. It was an enjoyable event with performances from some of the winners and Sean made a very genial host.

guess it had to come - the evening slot has been left alone for too long and as everyone knows management can't resist tinkering with a successful formula (I think they call it improving) - but what a load of yesterday's "celebs" apart from what appears to be a totally unknown kiwi - can they actually get through an evening ?

Radio Three going down the sleb route does have the undoubted side benefit of freeing up time for the many Bruckner 6 recommendations on the BAL Thread .
Now on Dausgaard - terrific , rhythmic. Why can’t he “curate”?
Either get a real sleb or some one who knows what they are talking about ....

However, I missed - because I don't really follow what Radio 3 does now - yesterday's Sunday Feature. I just listened to the first five or so minutes, but in view of my constant carping, fairness suggests I should listen to the whole programme: Errolynn Wallen talking about the 'British' (Commonwealth) contribution to 'British classical music'. That, to my way of thinking, is exactly "Radio 3", and using a 'celebrity' in the proper way.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. Depends what they've, y'know, had done...
Darcey's been all over the place, from Vicar of Dibley to Wild Scottish Coasts.... in danger of assuming the Lumley mantle (or halo) as a national treasure...
("And she's still only 51!" Etc.)
Youtube influencers are burnt out before 20 now...
Celebrity Choice with Conductors!

Oh you mean music ones. Hmm, Conductor Choice - who gets to choose which conductor? I know, it could be a new audience participation game, line up some conductors, let each do a quick demo then listeners can vote for their favourite to 'go forward'. Jeopardy sections each week - conduct something you aren't familiar with - musical, ballet, brass band, backing group. Oh, so many possibilities...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
