Piano Concerto No.1 in Bb minor, Op.23.
      Lazar Berman(piano), Berliner Philharmoniker,
      Herbert von Karajan.

Used to have this on vnyl, when it first appeared on the scene!
Following on from the piano concerto, I played Tchaik's Symphony No.5, from this box. having said that, it's certainly not patch on his much earlier 1960s recording! You wouldn't have thought it were from the same conductor! having said that, I am quite enjoying this box set.

Looks like it. Last week I was in Munich and saw Valery Gergeiv and the Münchner Philharmoniker give a stunning account of Mahler 4 at the Philharmonie. It was being recorded I noticed; certainly for radio.

This surely has to be a record for conductors doing this?

The LSO/Gergiev Mahler cycle was the least likeable one I'd heard and I never did get the 4th. Still got the LSO discs but not sure why I don't give them away as I'm not likely to hear them again.

I'm not so far tempted by the Munich re-make on the grounds that once bitten, twice shy but would be interested in any reports of whatever has been issued so far (the 2nd has. Any more?).

Couldn't stand listening to the news and opted for Klemperer/Eroica as breakfast accompaniment. Funeral March matched my mood.

I agree Pet, they are not even idiosyncratically fun. Whatever his talents are elsewhere he is not a Mahlerian, l see he's done Bruckner 4 and some R Strauss in Munich - anyone any comments on these I don't think he would fare well with Elgar but maybe he's not tried it yet!
