Arensky: Piano Trio no. 1 in D minor op. 32
Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio in A minor op. 50
Trio Wanderer
Rachmaninov: Piano Trio no. 2 in D minor op. 9 ('Trio élégiaque')
Christian Tetzlaff (violin), Tanja Tetzlaff (cello), Artur Pizarro (piano)
I'm a great fan of the Trio Wanderer, and their performances here are very fine, but the Rachmaninov recording is in a different class altogether. Perhaps it's because it was recorded live, perhaps it's due to the atmosphere in the Heimbach Hydroelectric Plant where the performance was part of the annual 'Spannungen/Tensions' chamber music festival (June 2014) — whatever the reason, this is music-making of the highest order imaginable (and a superb recording to boot).
