    upcoming: London, Leeds, Manchester, Canterbury

This is the first and possibly only time I'm going to plug on this forum a concert (actually a tour) I'm connected with, but I hope I'll be excused since there might be one or two people here interested in attending, especially in London, and I think it probably won't get a lot of publicity. I won't be there myself but I was recently in Strasbourg to work on this programme with the young musicians of Ensemble L'Imaginaire, and I was very impressed with their performance there. Anyway, the details are:

Thursday 13 October 1.10pm - Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, Manchester
Saturday 15 October 7.30pm - Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, Leeds
Sunday 16 October 3pm - St. John's Smith Square, London
Wednesday 19 October 1.10pm - St Gregory's Centre for Music, Canterbury

    Programme:
the light gleams an instant (1996) for piano
    Zungenentwurzeln (1997) electronic music
fold (2016) for soprano saxophone - UK premiere
    Katasterismoi (1999) electronic music
dying words (II) (2013) for flute-playing vocalist
epiphyte (2016) electronic music - UK premiere
    interference (2000) voice/pedal bass drum/contrabass clarinet solo

    Ensemble L'Imaginaire:
    Keiko Murakami, flute/voice
Adam Starkie, contrabass clarinet/voice/pedal bass drum
    Philippe Koerper, soprano saxophone
    Maxime Springer, piano

Not sure you're doing yourself any favours highlighting the London event twice, Richard - but I shall certainly attend the Leeds performance. A much more exciting event than anything offered so far this year from HCMF - not to mention a certain annual Summer Music festival in Kensington - and what'll interference sound like without Carl Rosman's distinctive vocals?

Are you being too modest in not ascribing a composer to each piece, Richard?

I apologise if the post/thread comes over as too London-centred. I thought that myself but then it was too late to change the thread title. In my experience the London concert scene is so saturated with events that things like this might go by without being noticed, especially given that (if I'm not mistaken) SJSS isn't associated with contemporary music like it used to be in the old days. But as a Host you could change it to "London, Leeds, Manchester and Canterbury" couldn't you?

Apparently not - I can "edit" anything within the text of a Post, but not (that I can see) the Title of a post/Thread.

Oh I thought that would be obvious

No, it was the 'I'm connected with' that made me (and perhaps others) wonder if all the pieces played were your compositions!
I know that London is not a million miles away from where I live at present, but I am certainly looking forward to having venues within easy reach of York to get to when I move there.
I might even get to meet ferney!

I am - and optimistic (hence the "so far") - and there are plenty of events at Huddersfield that I'm looking forward to - just nothing as unmissably mouth-watering as this Leeds (and "elsewhere" ) concert.

What about this ? (and some other things)

Indeed - BUT: f*****g Bates f******g Mill, with its f******g corrugated iron roof that means you can't hear a f*****g thing if it rains/hails (fortunately the Festival takes place at the end of November - and what are the chances of rain/hail in Huddersfield at the end of November?! ) and where it's so f*****g COLD that your f******g ***** freeze off during the second piece. (Fortunately, the facilities offer a nice glass of Chilled Wine - not having a f******g PLUG SOCKET to offer hot drinks!!!!) Bates Mill isn't a Concert Hall/Performing Venue - it's a glimpse of what eternity will be like if you don't behave yourself in this life!

                  (I'll still probably go ... )

AND that's AFTER you've traipsed half-way across the town in the snow/frost/rain/icy winds in the middle of the night to reach the f****g place!

"Bates Mill"? Bates' f*****g MOTEL was more inviting!

lends a whole new meaning to the word "trouble". (There is a heating system but - of course! - it's too noisy to keep on during performances.)

I've been to one of the best and one of the worst gigs ever in there
for some things it's brilliant but for others it's awful

And have you also noticed it's NEVER IN THE SAME PLACE from one year to the next?

Oh, thank goodness you said that - I thought it was just me!!!

(The Clothworkers' Centenary Concert Hall is in exactly the same place it was fumfty-odd years ago when I performed in it!)
