    Thanks, Alpie.

One of Mozza's finest works and, with the Schoenberg, the greatest String Trio in the Austro-German "Classical" tradition. I don't have a CD of it - just a tape recording of the Leopold Trio from years ago - so shall give this BaL considerable attention.

I love the Grumiaux Trio's version, which I have had for a long time (both on LP and CD), but I'm sure there are other excellent recordings. Wasn't there a version by the Italian String Trio at one time - perhaps no longer available?

I too have long loved the Grumiaux version (first acquired as a sale non-Dolby cassette and later on CD). More recently picked up the Archibudelli version in Witney Oxfam on a scratched CD, now repaired. It's a very nice alternative, in sonority and interpretetation.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Me, too -- one of my absolute favourites. The Heifetz/Primrose/Feuermann is also very enjoyable, though they miss out most of the repeats -- it comes in at just over 30 mins as against 45 mins of most modern versions. I'm surprised the version by the Leopold Trio isn't on the list, which had warm plaudits ('eclipses Grumiaux' according to BBC Music Mag), but which I haven't got round to hearing (mainly because the Grumiaux seems unsurpassable). But I see on the Hyperion website that it's only available with their 'Archive Service' at £13.99 (FLAC download £7.99), so perhaps that excludes it under E_A's and the BAL rules for 'currently available'?

A piece I don't think I know at all (maybe I'll recognise it...). Looking forward to having my eyes opened...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

If you really don't know it, what a treat you've got in store!

It is extraordinary that the Leopold is deleted considering how long many of Hyperion's records stay in the catalogue or at least go onto Helios - it was the sunday Times record of the year I see.

I have the Grumiaux coupled with the superb string quintets - it is very fine.

                    .....
As it is still available through Hyperion's Archive Service, it looks like it will be re-released as Hyperion CD in not too far a future.

About to adjourn to the Hoop'n'Grapes for a pint of Spitfire, so I shall be enjoying the wisdom of Mr Shepherd and Mr Neame whilst Alfred provides you with rather more cerebral nourishment!

One of my favourite Mozart works (and one of his greatest maybe?,I'll leave that to the experts).
Grumiaux for me and the 2nd movement is so beautiful,my favourite Mozart slow movement by a long chalk.
